suffix yl in organic chemistry nomenclature
Whenever
an alkyl group is attached to some other functional group or we use some
derivative of alkanes, in that case one hydrogen drops from the alkane chain
and the carbon bearing that hydrogen attaches to the other group in replacement
of that hydrogen. Hence, the obtained derivative attaches '-yl' in replacement
of '-ane' while naming it.
