Learn Chemistry Easy

This blog is all about discussions on different topics in chemistry and other subjects. Primarily it aims at answering different questions on organic chemistry, general chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry along with biochemistry, biophysics as well. This is extremely helpful for different board exams and curriculums (cbse, icse, isc, wbbse, wbchse, cisce, ap, college board, igcse, ibdp, nios, honors, bsc, msc etc.), competitive exams (iitjee, neet, mcat, gamsat, sat etc.).

Which of the following orbitals is not possible?

The options are,
A) 1s
B) 2p
C) 3f
D) none of the above

Which of the following orbitals is not possible

Here is the tabulation of n and l values of the given orbitals in the options,

Which of the following orbitals is not possible
orbitals possible

Which of the following orbitals is not possible

The 'l' value should be less than 'n' with minimum 'l' value starting from (n-1). Option C does not go with the same principle.
Hence, 3f orbital is not possible.

Option C is the correct choice for the given question.
